Why We Love A+FCU
Join us in celebrating credit unions on July 30 and share your story with the hashtag #ilovemycreditunion.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial institutions that exist to serve their members and community, and at A+FCU, this message is embodied in everything we do.
From cashback rewards to certificates with prize winnings to scholarships and grants, here are some of the ways we celebrate members and give back to our community.
A+ Gives
Our A+ Gives program launched in 2019, and after huge success, we decided to continue it for years to come. A few 2020 highlights include:
- A $10,000 donation and volunteer time for The House That Credit Unions Built with Austin Habitat for Humanity
- Partnering with Austin Junior League to put together 1,000 bags of food for children to have during the weekends through their Food In Tummies (FIT) Program
- Donating over $11,000 to unpaid school lunch balances at 18 local schools
- Presenting a check for $2,050 to the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center from both A+FCU as an organization and employee donations
- Hosting a diaper drive for the Austin Diaper bank along with employee donations
- Sponsoring a puppy for a veteran through Hounds for Heroes
So far in 2021, we’ve partnered with the Austin Diaper Bank, Black Lives Veggies, Backpack Friends, the Central Texas Food Bank, HopeAustin, and more.
Visit our A+ Gives page to learn more about the program and see what else we’re doing this year.
Cash-Back Checking
In May 2021, we reached over $12 million given back to members through our free Cash-Back Checking program since it began in 2007. Members who have a free Cash-Back Checking Account and debit card earn 10¢ for signature-based purchases and 5¢ for PIN-based purchases. In 2020 alone, our members earned over $2.2 million.
Save to Win® Certificate
Save to Win is our prize-linked share certificate, where members earn entries to win prizes from $25 to $5,000 by saving money regularly. Every $25 increase in month-over-month balance earns one entry into the monthly and quarterly prize drawings.
Since the program was adopted in 2018, members have won over $150,000 by saving money with their certificate.
Financial Education
Educating our members is a big part of what we do here at A+FCU. Our Community Education team regularly hosts free webinars, ranging from topics such as teacher retirement planning to improving your credit score to buying a home. We invite both members and non-members to participate and watch our on-demand content.
We also offer a free program called BALANCE, where members can access expertly-crafted financial education and resources, as well as financial counseling.
Grants & Scholarships
We know how expensive it is to be a teacher or to pursue higher education – which is why we’re ready to help with both.
The A+ Education Foundation awards grants to innovative and creative programs so they have the support they need to be successful. Educators are eligible to receive up to $1,500. Since 2005, the A+ Education Foundation has awarded over $1,117,800 to 1,142 educators.
Additionally, we award multiple scholarships to hardworking area high school and college students every year. In 2021, we awarded $100,000 to 50 individuals. The scholarships have been an A+FCU tradition since 1984, and this is the third consecutive year $100,000 has been awarded. Each student receives $2,000 to help with educational expenses.
July 30 Is I Love My Credit Union Day
Credit unions across the country are raising awareness and starting conversations about why we should be celebrating credit unions and everything we have to offer. Share on social media what you love about A+FCU and use the hashtags #ilovemycreditunion and #aplusfcu.
