In 2019, we founded A+ Gives, a series of different days with scheduled acts of kindness throughout the year, to show appreciation for the communities we serve. We’re continuing this program into 2020 and encourage you to follow along to see who we’re partnering with this year.

Monthly themes range from volunteering at nonprofit organizations to donating food to helping veterans.

 

2020 Programs

April/May: Helping Our Community

We might not be able to volunteer in person right now, but in the last few weeks, A+ employees and members made a difference nonetheless.

Prior to the start of COVID-19, A+FCU hosted a big Diaper Drive for local non-profit, Austin Diaper Bank, in honor of A+ Gives. Even though the window to donate physical items was cut short, employees and members contributed numerous items, and $465 was donated by staff. These donations were used during their recent Mother’s Day Diaper Drive-Thru event.

Employees also raised over $500 in April for the Central Texas Food Bank!

March: Austin Diaper Bank

During the month of March, A+FCU hosted a Diaper Drive in conjunction with the Austin Diaper Bank.

The Austin Diaper Bank is a Central Texas organization dedicated to providing diapers to families who need a clean, reliable supply of diapers for a healthy and comfortable quality of life. They partner with 30 agencies in the area and distribute over 70,000 diapers each month to six counties. 

Throughout March, A+FCU members donated diapers, diaper cream, and wipes for the Diaper Drive, in addition to visiting the Austin Diaper Bank to help put everything together.

January/February: Food

To kick off 2020’s A+ Gives series, we worked with the Junior League of Austin and their Food In Tummies (FIT) Program. FIT is an innovative program that collaborates with the Del Valle Independent School District to provide weekend nourishment to children across two elementary school campuses.

During our annual Training Day, A+FCU employees packed over 1,000 bags of food for the FIT program and raised $575. The organization also donated $2,500, for a total giveback of $3,075.

2019 Programs

December: Compassion

For the month of December, we wanted to share a little compassion with our Central Texas neighbors.

We partnered with multiple local nursing homes to ‘Adopt a Resident’ and put a smile on their faces by not only bringing them a gift, but also spending a little time with them. We selected the gifts, and then employees wrapped and delivered them, along with other surprises for the residents.

November: Thankful

During the month of November, we celebrated all the things we’re thankful for.

To show we’re thankful for veterans, we sponsored the Hounds for Heroes program through The Dog Alliance. Through the program, The Dog Alliance, a non-profit founded in 2006, provides service dogs for veterans who are challenged by the visible and invisible wounds of war.

We also worked with two other organizations this month, Carrying Hope and the Central Texas Food Bank.

Carrying Hope, a non-profit founded in 2016, provides Hope Packs for children entering the foster system. These backpacks and diaper bags are filled with items such as formula, diapers, books, stuffed animals, pajamas, and more. A+FCU employees assembled 25 Hope Packs over the course of two days.

Employees also volunteered with the Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry in Taylor, Creedmoor, San Marcos, and Temple, Texas.

In addition to volunteering, A+FCU employees donated money to Hounds for Heroes, Caritas of Austin, Central Texas Food Bank, Williamson County Animal ShelterPAWS Shelter of Central Texas, and Carrying Hope.

October: Animals

We celebrated our furry friends all month long! We partnered with PAWS Shelter of Central Texas and Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter to help find 159 pets their new homes. We paid covered pet adoption fees on three weekends – October 12 and 13, October 18 and 19, and October 26 and 27.

Volunteers also passed out bandannas and travel water bowls to newly adopted pets and their families.

September: Food

September’s A+ Gives theme was Food! First, we partnered with the Central Texas Food Bank, a non-profit organization who works with food donors, financial supporters, and volunteers to fill unmet needs in local communities. A+FCU volunteers went to their warehouse to inspect, clean, sort, box, and make food donations ready for distribution to partner agencies and the families they serve.

Our Assistant Branch Managers volunteered at the North Travis County Community Center in Pflugerville during their quarterly meeting. They volunteered in the Food Pantry, where they sorted vegetables for individuals in need and filled over 125 shopping bags with t-shirts donated by A+FCU.

We also passed out 350 $20 gift cards at H-E-B stores across Central Texas for a total giveback of $7,000.

August: Back to School

During the month of August, we focused on heading back to school and appreciating the staff, educators, and teachers throughout our communities.

From August 5 – 16, we hosted a School Supply Drive to support the local schools we work with. A+FCU members and employees donated items, such as notebooks, lined paper, and colored pencils, and dropped them off at local schools later in the month.

We also joined in on #ClearTheLists, a new Twitter trend. The goal was to help teachers get their classrooms ready for the new school year by buying items from their wish lists.

We found 12 Central Texas teachers and helped clear as much as we could within the $175/teacher budget. Districts included Austin ISD, Bastrop ISD, Georgetown ISD, Jarrell ISD, Leander ISD, and Pflugerville ISD.

June & July: Housing

We partnered with Caritas of Austin, a local nonprofit working toward preventing and ending homelessness in Greater Austin.

In the month of June, A+FCU members and employees donated items for a Hygiene Drive. We successfully delivered seven baskets worth of products and $240 in cash.

A+FCU employees also put together 20 Welcome Home Baskets with $5,000 worth of supplies, including H-E-B gift cards, pots and pans sets, comforters and bed sheets, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. Click here to see A+FCU in action!

May: Teacher Appreciation

Teacher Appreciation Week was May 6 – 10, so we gave back to the educators in our communities. We delivered cookies and treats to educators at over 100 Central Texas schools. See all the photos from our visits on our Instagram.

 

April: Keep Central Texas Beautiful

April was all about celebrating the earth we live on! A team of employees handed out a total of $3,500 in gift cards at The Great Outdoors Garden Center on April 13 and April 27 to people buying plants and garden accessories.

March: Transportation

Throughout the month, A+FCU employees handed out 200 $20 gift cards to people at various gas stations across Central Texas.

February: Food
Central Texas Food Bank

The A+FCU executive team volunteered at the Central Texas Food Bank on February 6 to create 2,880 stew kits for those in need. The food bank serves 21 counties in Texas and nearly 46,000 individuals every week.

H-E-B® Gift Card Giveaway

The A+FCU Executive team gave out 30 $20 gift cards to shoppers at the Mueller H-E-B in Austin on February 8.

Donation to Overdue Lunch Balances

We donated $14,153.88 to 20 different schools and organizations throughout Central Texas to pay school lunch balances. Fifteen of the schools’ overdue balances were paid off completely. A+FCU employees also contributed over $1,800 to the overall donation balance. Click here for a complete list of schools.
