Community Involvement

Committed to helping Central Texas communities thrive.

Education & Community Support

As an institution that was created by and for educators, we’re committed to helping schools and students throughout Central Texas. We give back over half a million dollars each year to various organizations and groups to help them reach students, families, teachers, and more.

And it’s not just money – our employees are active in their communities and volunteer thousands of hours a year.

High School Branches

In 2008, we decided to make it easier for students to learn money management by opening branches in Central Texas high schools. In addition to on-site financial services, the branch partners with the school to provide internship opportunities for students, financial education presentations, and scholarships.

Currently, we have branches in San Marcos HS, Connally HS, Hendrickson HS, and Round Rock HS. Our fifth high school branch, located in Akins High School, opened in August 2017.

RAISEup Texas

RAISEup Texas is a privately-funded organization that uses research-validated tools to help middle school students “learn how to learn”. We’ve partnered with University Federal Credit Union to invest half a million dollars to help RAISEup’s expansion efforts.

Their results are proven (and pretty amazing). In 2014, 75% of RAISEup Texas demonstration schools qualified for the Closing Performance Gaps distinction from the Texas Education Agency’s Closing Performance Gaps accountability program. That’s three times the rate of middle schools across the region.

With the combined fundraising efforts of A+FCU and UFCU, 16 more schools will be able to implement the RAISEup Texas Strategic Instruction Model (SIM). This means over 28,000 additional students and 1,100 teachers will benefit from the program.

Cash Back for Local Schools

We offer custom Cash-Back Checking debit cards to the following schools and school districts. For each purchase made with the card, we’ll donate up to 10¢ to the school or school district. In 2017, we gave back over $86,700 to these schools and school districts.

We’re committed to helping our college-bound members with scholarships for educational expenses. Each year we award multiple scholarships to hardworking area high school and college students.

For 2018, we’re awarding 45 students with $2,000 scholarships for a total of $90,000.

Our application period for this year has ended. We’re currently reviewing all submitted applications and will begin notifying the selected winners in the coming weeks.
